U.S. occupation of Old Town San Diego (Mexican–American War, 1846)

On July 29, 1846, U.S. naval forces landed at San Diego and raised the American flag over the pueblo of San Diego, marking U.S. occupation during the Mexican–American War. The action was part of wider U.S. operations to secure California that summer. The location of that historic pueblo is preserved today as Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
