University of Paris Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine of Paris, established in 1794 with roots dating back to around 1200, is a historic institution located in the Latin Quarter. Originally part of the ancient University of Paris, it has undergone significant transformations, including its establishment as the Paris School of Health in 1794, aimed at training surgeons for the French Republic. By 1808, it was officially recognized as the Paris Faculty of Medicine. The faculty has a rich history, including the creation of the Dupuytren Museum in 1835. Today, it is divided into two main universities: Paris Cité University Faculty of Health and Sorbonne University Faculty of Health Sciences, collectively accommodating over 33,000 medical students. Visitors can explore the historic buildings at 12 and 15 rue de l'École-de-Médecine, which house various medical institutions and a museum dedicated to the history of medicine.
