J. J. Newberry Company

The J. J. Newberry Company is a historic five-story building located in El Paso, Texas, constructed in 1911 by the J. Calisher Realty Company. Originally known as Calisher's, it housed early tenants such as the YMCA and the Border National Bank. The building later became associated with the J.J. Newberry five and dime store chain. Designed in the Chicago School architectural style by Trost & Trost, it has been recognized for its historical significance and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 24, 1980, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in early 20th-century architecture and commerce.
