The Wilderness (Trappe, Maryland)

The Wilderness, also known as High Banks, is a historic house located in Trappe, Maryland, overlooking the scenic Choptank River. This architectural gem features a smaller brick structure dating back to the 1780s and a larger section built around 1815, showcasing Flemish bond brickwork. The property includes two early outbuildings, a smokehouse, and a dairy. Notably, it was the residence of Daniel Martin, the 20th Governor of Maryland, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Maryland's history.
