General Winfield Scott House

The General Winfield Scott House, located at 24 West 12th Street in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, is a historic rowhouse built in 1851-52. It served as the residence of General Winfield Scott, a prominent military leader during the Mexican-American War and an unsuccessful presidential candidate in 1852, from 1853 to 1855. The house is notable for its architectural features, including a rusticated ashlar exterior and distinctive rounded arches. Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973, it reflects Scott's significant influence on the U.S. Army and his contributions to military tactics and crisis negotiation.
