Chewitt Building

The Chewitt Building, located at the corner of King and York Streets in Toronto, was a significant commercial hub designed by architect John G. Howard and completed in 1833. It housed various business offices and featured the British Coffee House on its ground floor, which served as a meeting place for entrepreneurs. Notably, it hosted the first meeting for the Northern Railway of Canada on July 29, 1834. The building was demolished in 1857 to make way for the Rossin House Hotel, and the site has since evolved, with the Toronto-Dominion Centre and Standard Life Centre now occupying the area.
