African American Civil War Memorial - The Spirit of Freedom

The African American Civil War Memorial features a 9-foot bronze sculpture titled "The Spirit of Freedom" by Ed Hamilton and a Wall of Honor listing the names of more than 200,000 members of the United States Colored Troops. The memorial and adjacent museum commemorate the service of African American soldiers and sailors in the Civil War. The site was dedicated in the late 1990s and is managed by the African American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation.
