Johnson House Historic Site (Underground Railroad station)

The Johnson House at 6306 Germantown Avenue was built in 1848 by James and Ann Johnson, a free Black couple, and served as a documented station on the Underground Railroad during the 19th century. The two-story brick rowhouse retains mid-19th-century domestic features and has been preserved to interpret African American community infrastructure and anti-slavery networks in Philadelphia. Operated as a museum, it houses archival materials and exhibits about its role assisting people escaping enslavement.
