Dumbarton Oaks (Georgetown estate and gardens)

Dumbarton Oaks is an early-19th-century estate with a house dating to about 1801 that was remodeled and developed into a notable garden complex during the 1920s and 1930s. The formal gardens were designed by landscape architect Beatrix Farrand and include terraced garden rooms, a reflecting pool, and a Byzantine-style garden. The property now houses the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection, affiliated with Harvard University, and is recognized for both its historic house and its designed landscape.
