St. Margaret's Home

St. Margaret's Home, also known as Mrs. Astor's Orphan Asylum, is a historic Episcopal orphanage located in Red Hook, New York. Built in 1852, this Italian Villa style brick building features elegant architectural details such as fluted cast iron columns and French windows. Originally supported by prominent figures like Margaret Rebecca Armstrong Astor, the orphanage operated until 1932 and has a rich history tied to the Astor family and the Chanler Estate. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006, making it a noteworthy site for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
