Social Hall (Alcatraz)

The Social Hall, also known as the Officers' Club, was a vibrant social venue on Alcatraz Island, catering to the Federal Penitentiary workers and their families. Located near key structures like the Power House and Former Military Chapel, it featured a bar, library, dining and dance floor, billiards, ping pong, and even a bowling alley. The hall was the heart of social life, hosting events such as dinners, bingo nights, and Sunday movie screenings. It played a significant role in community bonding until it was destroyed by a fire during the 1970 Occupation of Alcatraz, leaving behind a haunting shell that remains today, offering a glimpse into the island's unique history.
