DeForest Skinner House

The DeForest Skinner House, located in Valparaiso, Indiana, is a historic Italianate structure built around 1860 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since June 24, 2008. This two-story home features a double brick foundation and weatherboard walls, situated just three blocks from the Porter County Courthouse. It was originally owned by DeForest Skinner, a prominent local businessman and politician who served in the Indiana Senate and as President of the First National Bank. After his death in 1902, the house passed to his son Leslie, who became the youngest railroad director in the U.S. The property has a rich history, including its use as apartments until 2005, when it began renovations by the current owners. The house not only reflects the architectural style of its time but also the legacy of a significant figure in Indiana's history.
