Prudential Tower and the closed Top of the Hub

The Prudential Tower (Prudential Center) at 800 Boylston Street was completed in 1964 and at 749 feet was Boston's tallest building until the John Hancock Tower topped it in 1976. For decades the tower housed the Top of the Hub restaurant on its 52nd floor, a long-running city landmark that permanently closed in April 2013. The Prudential complex remains a major commercial and retail hub in Back Bay and includes an observation area and Skywalk-related amenities historically used by locals and visitors. The tower's role in Boston's mid-20th-century skyline and civic life is well documented in local architectural histories.
