University of Minnesota Armory

The University of Minnesota Armory, built in 1896, is a historic building located on the university's Minneapolis campus. Originally serving as a military training facility, it became the home for the Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team and the university's marching band. The Armory is notable for its connection to college sports history, including the forgotten Little Brown Jug trophy in 1903. It is part of the University of Minnesota Old Campus Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it houses ROTC classrooms and offices, while a nine-foot statue named 'Iron Mike' honors students who served in the Spanish-American War. This statue, unveiled in 1906, adds to the Armory's historical significance, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
