Columbus Division of Police Headquarters

The Columbus Division of Police Headquarters, located in downtown Columbus, Ohio, is an eight-story postmodern building designed by Brubaker/Brandt. Completed in 1991, it replaced the cramped Central Police Station from 1930 and significantly increased the department's space from 80,000 to 200,000 square feet. The building features a striking granite and limestone facade, an open two-story lobby, a cafeteria, and a 275-seat auditorium accessible to the public. Despite its initial acclaim, the headquarters faced numerous issues, including insulation problems and a rat infestation shortly before opening. Notably, the building is adorned with two stone lion sculptures, Patience and Perseverance, which have a storied history of relocation. The headquarters has also been a focal point for community protests, reflecting its role in the city's social landscape.
