Boston Public Library McKim Building murals

The McKim Building of the Boston Public Library contains large-scale murals and decorative programs executed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by artists including John Singer Sargent and Edwin Austin Abbey. The murals are integrated into the building's Beaux-Arts interior, which also features the library's Bates Hall reading room and historic sculpture and ornament. The McKim Building was completed in 1895 and the artworks are preserved as part of the library's permanent architectural and decorative installation.
