Texas African American History Memorial

The Texas African American History Memorial is a collection of bronze sculptures and stone panels on the south grounds of the Texas State Capitol that interprets the history and contributions of African Americans in Texas. Sculptor Ed Dwight created the figurative elements of the memorial, which was dedicated in 2016. The installation combines bronze figures, reliefs, and engraved text to tell stories from slavery through the civil rights era and into modern times. It is part of the Capitol grounds' ensemble of public monuments.
