City Hall Plaza (one of the largest open civic plazas in the U.S.)

City Hall Plaza, the broad paved space in front of Boston City Hall at Government Center, is frequently described in planning and tourism sources as one of the largest open-air civic plazas in the United States. Created during the Government Center redevelopment of the 1960s, the plaza has hosted large public gatherings, demonstrations, concerts, and civic ceremonies. Its expansive, largely hardscaped layout and central location have made it a prominent example of mid-20th-century civic design in Boston.
