Poteat House

Poteat House, also known as Forest Home, is a historic plantation house located near Yanceyville, North Carolina, built between 1855 and 1856 in the Greek Revival style. The two-story structure features a center hall plan and is complemented by one-story wings. Notably restored in the late 1920s, it showcases a double pedimented portico with Roman Doric columns. The property also includes a small cabin used by enslaved individuals and is recognized as the birthplace of painter Ida Isabella Poteat. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
