Corner House (Riga)

The Corner House, located at 61 Brīvības iela in Riga, Latvia, is a historic building that served as the headquarters of the Soviet KGB from 1940 to 1991. Originally constructed in 1912 as a mixed-use building with apartments and shops, it has a rich history, including use by various Latvian government offices and institutions. During World War II, it was occupied by a youth group and later by the Nazi-appointed government before returning to Soviet control. After Latvia regained independence, it housed the State Police until 2008. Today, it is part of the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, offering insights into the KGB's history in the country, and has undergone renovations to enhance its historical significance as a tourist attraction.
