Famedio, Pistoia

The Famedio, also known as the Pantheon of Illustrious Men, is a Neoclassical shrine located in Pistoia, Tuscany, Italy. Designed by Cosimo Rossi Melocchi, it serves as a secular memorial to notable figures from the region. Construction began in 1812 but was delayed due to the Napoleonic wars, leading to a simpler design completed in the early 1820s. The structure features elegant Doric columns and a distinctive facade adorned with angelic figures and a checkered pattern symbolizing Pistoia. Once a cafe, the Famedio is now a significant cultural landmark for visitors and researchers alike.
