Galkoff's, Liverpool

Galkoff's, a historic kosher butcher shop located at 29 Pembroke Place in Liverpool, was a cornerstone of the city's Jewish community from the early 20th century until its closure in 1979. The building, originally a Georgian townhouse from 1820, features an elegant tiled façade added in 1933, which has earned it a Grade II listing. Although now derelict, the site is protected by a mural created by local artist Donna Berry and students from King David School, celebrating the rich history of Liverpool's Jewish community. Visitors can appreciate the preserved shop front as part of the Museum of Liverpool Life's 'Secret Life of Liverpool' project, making it a significant cultural landmark for both tourists and researchers alike.
