Bryn Mawr College Deanery

The Bryn Mawr College Deanery, located in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, was the residence of M. Carey Thomas, the first Dean and second President of Bryn Mawr College, from 1885 to 1933. Originally a modest Victorian cottage, it transformed into a grand 46-room mansion featuring exquisite designs by renowned artists like Lockwood de Forest and Louis Comfort Tiffany. The Deanery is celebrated for its 'Blue Room,' a prime example of Aesthetic Movement interior design, and its beautifully landscaped garden designed by John Charles Olmsted. After serving as the Alumnae House from 1933 until its demolition in 1968, the Deanery remains an iconic symbol of the college's rich history and commitment to women's education.
