de Young Museum observation and 2005 building

The de Young Museum reopened in 2005 in a new building designed by Herzog & de Meuron that replaced the original 1895 structure. Its Hamon Observation Tower provides panoramic views of Golden Gate Park, the city, and the Pacific Ocean. The museum's collection emphasizes American art from the 17th century onward and also holds significant textile, Oceanic, and African art holdings.
