16–22 Coney Street

16–22 Coney Street is a historic terrace of shops located in the heart of York, England, dating back to around 1500. Originally built as three timber-framed houses, the terrace has undergone various renovations over the centuries, including significant changes in the 18th and 19th centuries. Notably, it was home to a famous bookshop run by Henry Sotheran. The terrace was designated as a Grade II* listed building in 1954, highlighting its architectural significance. Visitors can explore early 19th-century features, including a staircase and fittings, as well as unique early 17th-century doors. The terrace also has literary connections, as the Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley stayed in No. 20 in 1811 with his wife and friend.
