Speedway town enclave and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The town of Speedway is an incorporated municipality that is geographically surrounded by the consolidated City of Indianapolis/Marion County, making it an enclave-style border oddity around the city's west side. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400, is located within the town of Speedway but is commonly referenced with Indianapolis mailing conventions, contributing to postal and place-name confusion. Speedway retained its municipal independence when Unigov was enacted, so the racetrack sits inside a separate town government entirely encircled by Indianapolis.
