1952 visual reports above the White House

On the nights of July 19–20, 1952, witnesses reported bright lights and unexplained aerial targets visible over and near the White House. The events occurred at the same time radar operators at nearby airports and military sites tracked anomalous returns, prompting military jets to be scrambled. The U.S. Air Force later attributed many of the radar returns to atmospheric temperature inversions; some researchers dispute that explanation.
