Sun Studio - Sam Phillips and early rock 'n' roll recordings

Sun Studio at 706 Union Avenue was founded and operated by record producer Sam Phillips and is widely credited as a birthplace of rock 'n' roll. On July 5, 1954, Elvis Presley recorded what is commonly cited as his first commercial-quality song, "That's All Right," at Sun Studio with Scotty Moore and Bill Black. The studio and label gave early recording opportunities to artists including Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and B.B. King. Sun Studio continues to operate as a museum and working recording studio interpreting that history.
