Fort Garrison

Fort Garrison, located in Stevenson, Maryland, is a historic fortification built around 1695 to protect against Native American attacks and later used during the French and Indian War. This rectangular fieldstone structure features a large stone fireplace and underwent modifications in the early 19th century, adding a second story and a wood shingle roof. It was constructed under an order from Governor Francis Nicholson and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The site is now managed by the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks, and in 2019, it gained attention for the removal of a sign that contained outdated and biased language regarding Native Americans.
