Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church

Mother Bethel AME Church was founded by Richard Allen and the congregation organized in 1794. The site is regarded as the birthplace of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) denomination, which formally organized there in 1816. Mother Bethel is widely cited as the oldest property in the United States continuously owned by African Americans.
