Field of Empty Chairs

The memorial features 168 empty chairs arranged in rows on the footprint of the former Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, each chair representing a person killed in the 1995 bombing; smaller chairs represent children who died. The chairs are made of bronze and are arranged by the floor on which each victim worked or was located at the time of the blast. The installation sits around a reflecting pool and is a central, widely recognized element of the memorial's design.
