African Meeting House (Black Heritage Trail)

The African Meeting House at 46 Joy Street was built in 1806 and is the oldest surviving black church building in the United States. Located on Beacon Hill, it served as a central gathering place for Boston's free Black community and abolitionist activities in the 19th century and is a key site on the Black Heritage Trail. The building is now part of the Museum of African American History and operates as a museum of African American history and culture.
