Kingdome demolition (March 26, 2000)

The Kingdome was imploded on March 26, 2000, in a high-profile demolition that cleared the site for redevelopment in Seattle's SoDo neighborhood. The domed stadium had opened in 1976 and served as the home venue for the NFL's Seattle Seahawks and MLB's Seattle Mariners during their early years. The Kingdome also hosted numerous large sporting events, concerts, and conventions while it stood. Its removal preceded the construction of separate, sport-specific stadiums in the area.
