Old Red Courthouse built of distinctive red sandstone

The Dallas County Courthouse, commonly called the Old Red Courthouse or Old Red Museum, was completed in 1892 and is constructed largely of red sandstone and red granite, giving the building its distinctive color and nickname. The building’s stonework was quarried and selected for its reddish hue, making the courthouse a prominent example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture in Dallas. The structure now houses the Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture.
