Pavillon de l'Esprit Nouveau

The Pavillon de l'Esprit Nouveau, designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, is a groundbreaking model home showcased at the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. This innovative structure, measuring 2,200 square feet, features an open plan with living spaces and a kitchen on the lower floor, and bedrooms above. Departing from the prevalent Art Deco style, the architects emphasized functionality over decoration, incorporating built-in furniture to enhance utility. The pavilion also displayed cubist sculptures by Jacques Lipchitz. An exact replica was constructed in Bologna, Italy in 1977 and restored in 2017. Recognized for its influence, the pavilion was named one of the '20 Designs That Defined the Modern World' by CNN in 2017, making it a significant site for tourists and researchers interested in modern architecture.
