Porticus Octavia

The Porticus Octavia, built in 168 BC by Gnaeus Octavius, is an ancient Roman portico that commemorates the capture of Perseus of Macedonia. Located between the Theatre of Pompey and the Circus Flaminius, it features a double portico adorned with bronze Corinthian capitals, making it one of the earliest examples of this architectural style in Rome. Surrounding the Temple of Hercules Musarum, it was praised by historians for its beauty. In 33 BC, Octavian restored the portico and the temple to celebrate his military victories, although little remains of these structures today. The site offers a glimpse into Rome's rich architectural history and its significance in commemorating military achievements.
