Kimball House (Atlanta)

The Kimball House refers to two historic hotels that once stood in Atlanta, Georgia, at the bustling Five Points intersection. The first Kimball House, completed in 1870, was notable for its grand architecture, featuring a four-story lobby and being the first building in Atlanta with elevators and central heating. It served as a social hub during the Reconstruction era, hosting notable figures and events, including the first University of Georgia vs. Auburn football game in 1892. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1883. The second Kimball House, rebuilt in 1885, was larger and fireproof, but it too met its demise when it was demolished in 1959. Today, the site is occupied by a parking garage, marking the loss of these significant historical landmarks.
