Washington Square Arch

The Washington Square Arch in Washington Square Park was designed by architect Stanford White and erected in 1892 to commemorate the centennial of George Washington's 1789 inauguration. The limestone triumphal arch functions as a public monument and includes carved ornamentation and sculptural elements added in subsequent years. It remains a central landmark and gathering place within the park.
