San Francisco City Hall whispering gallery

San Francisco City Hall's Beaux-Arts rotunda contains an acoustic phenomenon commonly called a whispering gallery where a whisper along the curved interior can be heard clearly across the dome. The effect is frequently demonstrated by visitors and has been noted in architectural descriptions of the building since its 1915–1916 reconstruction.
