Hawker's Hut

Hawker's Hut is a Grade II listed building located near Morwenstow, Cornwall, originally constructed by the eccentric clergyman and poet Robert Stephen Hawker in the 19th century. This unique timber structure, partially built into the hillside with a turf roof, was made from driftwood and materials salvaged from shipwrecks. It served as a retreat for Hawker, where he wrote poetry and found inspiration in the stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The hut has historical significance, having hosted notable visitors like Alfred Tennyson. Today, it remains accessible to the public via a coastal footpath and is the smallest property managed by the National Trust, making it a charming stop for tourists and researchers interested in literary history and coastal heritage.
