Originally owned by Chinese banker Lim Yew Teok, it was gazetted for conservation in 1991 and has been a residential property since its inception. In 2020, the Portabella family purchased the townhouse and later donated it to the National University of Singapore (NUS) for research on heritage conservation. NUS has initiated restoration efforts, expected to be completed by 2027, focusing on sustainable practices and the use of green technology.
