Gas Works Park and industrial reclamation

Gas Works Park occupies the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company plant and was developed as a public park that opened in 1975. The park retains large portions of the plant's machinery as historic industrial structures integrated into landscape design by Richard Haag. It is a popular local gathering place for skyline views, kite-flying, and community events such as Fourth of July celebrations. The site illustrates Seattle's reuse of industrial waterfront land for public recreation and culture.
