Hanshill

Hanshill, also known as Rough House, is a historic summer home and camp located in Amherst County, Virginia. Developed by the Suhling family, the property features a log cabin dating back to around 1880 and a Rustic Revival style house built in 1925. Notable structures include servant's quarters, a garage/bunkhouse, and an outdoor tennis court. The site is historically significant as it hosted the first semi-permanent summer camp for white girls organized by the Y.W.C.A. from 1918 to 1922. Hanshill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011, making it an interesting destination for tourists and researchers alike.
