Old City Hall

Old City Hall, completed in the 1860s, served as Boston's municipal government building from 1865 until 1969 and is an example of French Second Empire civic architecture. After the city government moved, the building was adaptively reused for private offices and restaurants, demonstrating an early U.S. example of historic preservation through commercial reuse. It remains a distinctive architectural landmark in the Downtown/Beacon Hill area and a frequent point on historic walking tours.
