New York City's Percent for Art program

The Percent for Art program, established by New York City in 1982, requires that one percent of the budget for eligible city-funded capital construction projects be allocated for the acquisition of public artwork. The program is administered by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with other agencies and has resulted in thousands of commissions sited across the five boroughs in civic buildings, parks, and streetscapes. It remains a principal municipal mechanism for funding public art in the city.
