Fort Negley

Fort Negley is a Civil War-era fortification built by Union forces in 1862–1863 after the capture of Nashville. Much of its construction was carried out by African American contraband and conscripted laborers. Today the site is a park and archaeological site with stabilized stonework, interpretive signage, and trails explaining its wartime and postwar history.
