Vadalabene Center

The Sam M. Vadalabene Center, located at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, is a vibrant multi-purpose sports and recreation facility that opened in 1984. Named after Illinois State Senator Sam M. Vadalabene, the center features the First Community Arena, which seats over 4,000 and hosts SIUE Cougars basketball, volleyball, and wrestling events. The venue also accommodates university commencement ceremonies, concerts, and various athletic competitions, including NCAA events. Notable moments include hosting the 1986 & '87 NCAA Division II wrestling championships and a concert by rapper Nelly. The center underwent significant renovations in 2008 and 2012, enhancing its facilities and capacity.
