José Mario Gil Adobe

José Mario Gil Adobe, established in 1865 by Don José Maria Gil, is a historic rancho adobe located in Jolon, California, within Fort Hunter Liggett. This single-story, L-shaped structure exemplifies Spanish architecture and reflects the cattle ranching economy of the Salinas Valley before the shift to irrigation-based vegetable farming. The adobe is notable for its historical significance, being one of the few remaining adobes in Monterey County not converted into a private residence. It features seven rooms, two fireplaces, and is surrounded by a family cemetery. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and is currently in a good preservation state, awaiting restoration.
