Hôtel de préfecture des Yvelines

The Hôtel de Préfecture des Yvelines, located in the historic city of Versailles, France, serves as the seat of the prefecture and departmental council of Yvelines since 1968. This impressive freestone building, designed by architect Amédée Manuel, was constructed between 1863 and 1866 on the site of a former royal kennel and inaugurated in 1867. Its rich history includes serving as the headquarters for the Prussian General Staff in 1870 and later housing the government during the Paris Commune. The building features a striking triangular pediment adorned with a bas-relief by sculptor Georges Clère, depicting the personifications of the Oise and Seine rivers, making it a notable architectural and historical landmark for visitors.
