Clifton (Lexington, Virginia)

Clifton is a historic home near Lexington, Virginia, built around 1815 in Federal style. This two-story brick dwelling features a side-gable roof, four chimneys, and a two-story portico added in the 1980s. The property includes a small stone servant's quarters and a wooden icehouse. Overlooking the Maury River, it was constructed by Major John Alexander and served as a racing site for Washington and Lee rowing teams in the late 1800s. Clifton was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, making it a notable destination for history enthusiasts and tourists.
